Health Certificates and International Travel

Whether you are taking a short vacation or relocating permanently, planning any trip can be stressful, especially when you want to bring your furry family members. It has become much more common for pets to travel, domestically and even internationally. Depending on where you’ll be traveling, each destination has different guidelines and specific requirements for your pet to meet.

CAH has made a considerable effort over the last four years to educate specific staff members on the complicated process of pet travel. When you call Community Animal Hospital you’ll have access to team members who can find the answers you need.

It is important that your veterinarian keeps in close contact with the United States Department of Agriculture and government appointed Consulate members because regulations and laws for pet travel can change rapidly.  Our goal is to work with you to help you understand the entire procedure and make sure your travel experience is pleasant and hassle free.

If you are moving or planning a trip, please review these important steps and call us as soon as possible so we can help plan your adventure

  • Make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel. Have a physical exam done on your pet before you plan a trip involving them, we want to make sure they will be able to travel safely.
  • Make sure your pet is fully vaccinated and has had a microchip implanted.
  • Keep or track down records from all of your previous veterinary visits, this is crucial and will make the process much easier.
  • We will need the physical address and phone number of your destination, even if it is a hotel. PO Boxes are not accepted.

If you are traveling within the United States or Canada, you can call and schedule an appointment anytime. For international travel we are available for consultations Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm.
