     Vaccination Guidelines

Here is our hospital's guidelines for vaccinations. It is best to keep up to date with vaccinations to keep your animal protected from illness.

DAPP #3, Bordetella intranasal 12 Weeks FVRCP #3, FeLV #2, Rabies #1 16 Weeks
DAPP #4, Rabies #1 16 Weeks FVRCP 3-year, FeLV 1-year, Rabies 1-year 1 year after 16-week vaccinations
DAPP 12-month, Rabies 1-year 1 year after DAPP #4, same with Rabies Rabies 3-year  3 years after 1-year Rabies Vaccination.

Canine Vaccination Descriptions
DAPP Includes: Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza.  These are highly contagious and easily passed between dogs.
BORDETELLA- A yearly vaccination that helps prevent "Kennel Cough" and  parainfluenza.
*Required for dogs that go to a boarding facility, or groomers.
*Recommended for dogs that go to dog parks or have a lot of interaction with other dogs.

RABIES- First vaccination is given 4 months of age and is effective for 1 year.
A booster is given every 3 years thereafter.
*Rabies attacks the brain and central nervous system.
*Transmitted to humans through bite of an infected animal.
*Required to obtain a county license.

SERVICES RECOMMENDED YEARLY

HWT- Heartworm Test, recommended yearly to test for fatal heartworm.
*Spread by mosquitoes.

HEARTWORM preventive- keep on continuously.  If there is a lapse in administration,  a recheck HWT is required. Heartworm preventatives include Heartgard and Revolution.

FECAL Exam- in which a sample of feces is tested  for intestinal parasites.
*Recommended yearly
 


Feline Vaccination Descriptions

FVRCP- Feline Viral Rhinotrachetitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia.
*Highly contagious and easily passed between cats.

FELV- Feline Leukemia Virus
*Contracted through saliva, urine, feces, and is transplacental.
*Outdoor cats are at higher risk.

FIV- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus
*Contracted through bite wounds and sexual transmission and is transplacental and transmammary.
*Outdoor cats are at higher risk
*No cure, but treatment. 

RABIES- First vaccination is given at 4 months of age, effective for 1 year.
*Rabies is a virus that attacks the brain and central nervous system.
*Transmitted to humans through bite of an infected animal.
*Required by County of Washoe to obtain license.

SERVICES RECOMMENDED YEARLY

FELV/FIV TEST-Recommended to test at least once in a lifetime.
*Outdoor cats should be tested yearly.

FECAL Exam-Sample of feces is brought in to test for intestinal parasites.
